While working for the Department of the Navy, I was sent to White Sands Missile Range to install some data collection equipment on a device that was being tested there. We were staying in Socorro, New Mexico and driving about 70 miles to the test site every day. One afternoon as we were driving back to the hotel, I noticed this building across the street from where we were staying. By the time I got the view camera from my room, the daily evening storm was brewing and the light was streaming through gaps in the clouds. When I got to the building I found it was completely surrounded by a chain link fence. I managed to get the lens right up to the fence and positioned between the wires.
Since the brick and old wood were reflecting the late afternoon glow of the sun, I used a yellow filter, but without applying the filter factor of 2x. This allowed the sunlit areas to pass without attenuation while dropping the clouds and shadow detail one full Zone. The deep shadows were placed on Zone II, the sidewall fell on Zone IV, but the filter dropped it to Zone III. The front fell on Zone VI, but the filter had little effect, so the negative was given N+2 development to bring it to Zone VIII.
